I came to drawing the way I came to the Church: slowly, and through practice rather than conviction first. The Daily Examen — looking back over a day to find where God was — turned out to be the same motion as sketching from memory. Both ask you to sit with what actually happened instead of what you meant to happen.
Before this, I spent years in MENA-region advocacy, including leading Transgender Red Umbrella. That work taught me what it costs to insist on being seen accurately. I bring the same insistence to a page — whether it's graphite or prose.
